Brian Piccolo Sports Park and Velodrome is an athletic park in Cooper City, outside of Fort Lauderdale. Surprisingly, it is one of the best sites in the state to see the Florida burrowing owl, Athene cunicularia floridana.
The numerous nesting burrows are roped off and are easy to find and to access.
The monk parakeet (Quaker parrot), Myopsitta monachus, is a small bright-green parrot with a greyish breast and greenish-yellow abdomen. They originated in the temporate to subtropical areas of Argentina, but there are self-sustaining feral populations in many places. In the park they nest in the powerline pylons.
The green iguana (American iguana, common green iguana), Iguana iguana, is native to South America from Southern Brazil and Paraguay as far north as Mexico. A feral population lives in South Florida.
